This series of short articles celebrates independent filmmakers who bring a unique vision and a lifelong passion to their craft. This time, we focus on filmmaker Peter Rouillard, whose dedication to independent film has left an indelible mark on the Guernsey film community.
He has been an amateur filmmaker since 1966, beginning with 8mm film, progressing to 16mm, and later working with various video formats. His productions have garnered numerous awards at international festivals, including recognition at British international festivals. Remarkably, three of his films were screened at London’s prestigious National Film Theatre.
Professionally, he worked for an advertising company for twelve years, during which time he contributed to the shooting and editing of corporate videos and television commercials. He also played a vital role as an organiser of the Guernsey Lily International Film Festival. This highly regarded event ran for nineteen years and was recognised as one of Britain’s top two festivals.
He became a member of the IAC in 1970 and was honoured as a Fellow of the Film and Video Institute in 1982. His love for cinema traces back to his first visit to the local Odeon at around five years old—a passion that has remained an enduring part of his life.
